The annual curriculum analysis was a major event back in the day; the curriculum deputy would spend most of the autumn term producing the analysis of what he – it was usually he – had produced for the timetable the previous summer. It is interesting to note how this has morphed into the integrated curriculum & financial planning process, which remains alien to so many colleagues in secondary schools . Much of my current work is helping schools to understand the need to plan the curriculum to meet financial demands, and to plan staffing to meet curriculum needs. We need to develop greater understanding of these processes if we are to cope with very tight budgets.
